Biblical and Historical Origins of False Gods

Image
After God flooded the earth during the time of Noah, his sons Japheth, Ham, and Shem started the human race anew. Below is their genealogy right down to the 12 sons of Jacob. All the names above gave birth to nations of the earth. According to the Bible and archeological findings by Ron Wyatt in 1987, the ark of Noah touched down on a mountain in the region of Ararat which is in modern-day Turkey. After the flood, the vegetation had to recover due to being submerged underwater for one hundred and fifty days. As the number of Noah's descendants grew, they looked for more fertile lands in which to establish themselves. The first human civilization after the flood began in the historical region of Mesopotamia which means: the land between rivers. The fertile region of Mesopotamia was also the birthplace of Paganism - the worship of false gods. We will now turn our attention to one of Noah's descendants, Nimrod the son of Cush, the grandson of Ham. The Bible says that he was "...

Chapter 3. God's Mercy and Justice

Image
God is love. 1 John 4:8. This is the foundational principle of His kingdom. You cannot separate God from the principle of love because it is who He is.  "O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!" Romans 11:33. The best way to comprehend God fully is by studying the revelations given in His Word.  The whole Bible, from Genesis to Revelation is God's revelation of His love to mankind, it is His love letter, His storybook to His children. Through it, we gain a fuller understanding of His glory and character.  The man Moses once asked God, "Show me thy glory." God descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. Then He passed before Him and proclaimed, "The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that...

Chapter 2. Heart, Soul, Mind & Strength

Image
There are many theories today about the soul. How do we discern the truth? Jesus said, "Sanctify them through thy truth, thy word is truth." John 17:17. We will therefore look into the Scriptures to find out the true meaning of the soul. In the beginning, the "...LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7. From the previous post, we learned that this Bible verse means that man is made up of three components: body, soul, and spirit. In fact, Paul in his first letter to the Thessalonians stated that when God saves, sanctifies and preserves a person wholly, he does it to three things: the body, soul, and spirit. 1 Thessalonians 5:23. We learned that the body, made from dust was designed as the house of the soul and the spirit, God's temple here on Earth. What does the Bible say about the soul? The central commandment of God's kingdom is love, and love is generated ...

Apocalypse | 013 | To the Angel of Pergamos

Image
To the third church, the Alpha and Omega, Jesus Christ made his address. From the previous post, we have established that the second church era ended at the beginning of Constantine the Great's rule as Emperor of Rome. He ended Christian persecution and legalized the free practice of Christianity in the empire, which later became the state's religion. During the time of John the Apostle, Pergamos was the capital city of the Roman province of Asia Minor, the region in which the seven churches are located. In addition to providing government for the region, the city was a religious center. Beautiful temples were erected in honor of four pagan gods: Zeus, Dionysus, Athena, and Asclepius. Asclepius was the mythological god of healing, and it is interesting to note that the serpent-entwined staff associated with him continues today as a symbol for modern medical arts. The books were of parchment that was first used here; hence, the word 'parchment,' derived from the name o...

Apocalypse | 012 | To the Angel of Smyrna

Image
The second letter of Jesus was addressed to the messenger of the church at Smyrna. During the time of John, Smyrna was apparently a city of great beauty and impressive architecture that circled Mount Pagus like a “crown”.  When walking through the city, one would see the Ephesian gate, a gymnasium (near the harbor), a stadium (west side), a theater (holding 20,000 and located on the northwest mountain slope), temples to Zeus (including a large altar), Cybele (the Mother Goddess, near the harbor), Aphrodite, Dionysius, and the Emperors (probably Tiberius in 26 AD and Domitian before 96 AD), the harbor, a library, and a massive agora with a bema on the west and a basilica on the north. This wealthy city was also known for its exceptionally good wine that could be used for both enjoyment and medicinal purposes. Smyrna was dedicated to the worship of the emperor and the imperial cult. Along with the other cities of Asia Province, Smyrna competed for the honor of building a te...
